We hear about many paediatric OTs who are struggling. They are doing extra work at home just to keep up. They can feel like they are stretched so thin, that they are unprepared for clients. They are seeing clients they feel ill-equipped to help and do not have enough supervision to give them the confidence to blossom and grow into the OT’s that they want to be. Some are working in small rooms and do not have the space they need to give the kids. Others do not have enough resources to do their job well. Many are doing their own admin and bookings yet this does not count towards KPIs. Some have so much pressure to reach high KPIs but do not have the resources to reach them on a consistent basis. Many have many “holes” in their knowledge but have no means of knowing what they are missing in order to help children and families better reach their goals. Some are travelling so far and so often that it is exhausting. This all leads to stress, frustration or even burnout and tragically, many leave the OT profession.
But it doesn’t have to be that way.

We build our community through multiple opportunities to connect in the workplace, our annual team planning day, fortnightly meetings in your own clinic, and 6 weekly whole team meetings. We also have face to face PD together once a term in the school holidays. (Note that these meetings and any supervisions are counted towards your KPIs.)

We are a family run business that was established in 2005 and Vivienne Williams, the Principal / Director is an OT who still sees clients, so she stays in touch with client and therapist needs. We focus on providing excellence in Occupational Therapy services and collaborate with our multidisciplinary colleagues in the community.

We also focus on evidence-based and evidence-informed interventions and support you to develop special interests and skill-sets so you can do quality work and be satisfied with the quality of care that you provide. We do a combination of bottom-up developmental work and top-down interventions to ensure our clients meet their goals. Common interventions include: Sensory processing and modulation, Learn to play (Karen Stagnitti), Zones of regulation, Social thinking, handwriting, fine and gross and motor skill development, DIR-Floortime, COOP, Collaborative Problem solving, Self-care skill development, parent coaching and executive function supports and training.

About the position

Both positions are full-time (negotiable) – one at our Aspley clinic and the other at Greenslopes.

• Both positions are split between the clinic and mobile visiting in the community.
• You will have your own desk and place to nest with plenty of opportunities to connect with your colleagues on a regular basis.
• We offer some flexibility for you setting up a schedule and keep community visits within a tight geographical radius.
• You will need your own car.
• All travel costs will be reimbursed as per government guidelines.

There is full training on the job with ample opportunities for informal mentoring and support within the clinic. In addition, regular formal supervision and support is built into your schedule (according to your level of experience). All supervision is completed with senior staff, starting weekly, continuing for as long as you need it and phasing this out when you are ready.

We are well resourced with sensory gyms, treatment rooms and offices so you have the tools you need to do an amazing job. This gives the flexibility to see many kinds of kids.
All new therapists have the opportunity to settle into the caseload at a reasonable pace and are supported to manage their own diary and caseload. Any less experienced therapists will be supported with intensive training to build knowledge and skills as their primary focus.

More experienced therapists will be able to develop expertise while contributing to the practice in the way that suits their interests and skill set such as supporting, mentoring and training younger therapists, focussing on a special client related area or have time allocated for completing a special project to add value to the clients and the team (according to your skills and interests).

– Junior admin/ receptionist & People Person (Yeerongpilly & Greenslopes)

Are you looking for a new challenge and do you love helping people?

Kids Matters OT, a well-established Brisbane Occupational Therapy clinic, is seeking a junior admin. assistant/ receptionist to work across our Greenslopes and Yeerongpilly clinics to support our growing practice.

The person in this role will ensure that the first point of contact for parents and their children, both in person and over the phone, is an awesome experience and will also contribute to the smooth, efficient running of the clinic. The receptionist warmly welcomes our clients to the clinic, meets their administrative needs, cares for them outside their appointments and supports the occupational therapists so they can best serve their clients.

Hours are 4 days/ week – Monday- Thursday. Monday-Tuesday at Yeerongpilly office and Wednesday-Thursday at Greenslopes office. There may be additional hours by negotiation. The position is casual with the option of permanent employment after 1 year.

As the first point of contact, you will be responsible for warm welcomes, fond farewells, and will enjoy building relationships with children and their families. You will also be responsible for supporting the administration side of the clinic with efficient and effective administration support and most importantly, creating a “WOW” experience for everyone we interact with. Your duties will include booking appointments, serving clients, managing waiting lists and support on other projects as required, such as archiving. You will be highly valued in this important, supporting role.
