JENNI MACHIN
Who is Jenni and how much experience does she have?
Jenni is a dedicated and passionate OT who has over 35 years of experience in paediatric practice. Jenni graduated from the University of Queensland with a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy. After graduating, Jenni immediately started her career working with children and has practised in a wide range of settings. She has delivered direct therapy, as well as conducted parent and teacher consultations in the home, school and clinic environments. She has been involved in developing and implementing training and support programs and workshops through Autism Queensland and in schools. These were aimed at helping parents, families and professionals best understand and support children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Language Disorder. Jenni also has experience working with people from different cultural backgrounds and established the national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison Officers program while working for Autism Queensland.

She has extensive knowledge and experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), learning and language disorders, Global Developmental Delay, as well as a range of physical, intellectual and psychological disabilities and conditions. She has worked across a range of settings. Jenni also has special interest areas of play, behaviour management and sensory processing. Throughout her career, Jenni has completed extensive training in the Early Start Denver Model, DIR/Floortime Model, TEACCH and Positive Behaviour Support. She uses best-practice strategies to help children to develop their engagement and attention, self-regulation, play, school readiness, skills for learning at school, fine motor, and self-care skills including eating, toileting and dressing. She has a strong passion for working with children and their families to facilitate best outcomes for their learning and development. Jenni is warm, engaging and easily develops rapport with children. She believes that therapy and learning should be fun and enjoyable for each child, and she is highly skilled at integrating their special interests in order to achieve this. Jenni is passionate about helping all children and their families receive quality interventions. She does this through taking a child- and family-centred approach and using evidence-based and best-practice strategies. She also works closely with families, schools and other health professionals as she understands that a collaborative process provides children with the best opportunities and environments for learning and development. What happens if you don’t like your therapist (or they don’t feel best equipped to help you)? Sometimes, despite our best efforts you or the therapist may find that you are not a good fit. If your therapist feels that he or she is not best suited to you, he/ she will discuss this with you and recommend a more appropriate therapist. We will then offer you a discounted first session with a new more appropriate therapist at Kids Matters. If you feel that your therapist is not a good fit within the first three sessions, simply discuss this with our admin team who will find a more suitable therapist.Courses completed
