Understanding Our Therapist Levels

Q&A: Consultant, Senior & Experienced OTs

What is a Consultant OT?

We deeply value the experience and dedication that all of our therapists bring to their work. As part of this, we have introduced Consultant Occupational Therapists as a distinct tier within our clinical team, alongside our experienced and senior therapists. Our Consultant OTs bring 25+ years of clinical experience, along with specific specialties, advanced training, and certifications developed over a long career working with children and families. They are often called upon for the most complex presentations, provide clinical guidance across the team, and bring a depth of specialised knowledge built over many years in the field.

What is a Senior OT?

Our Senior Occupational Therapists play a vital role not only in client support but also in the ongoing development of our team, providing mentorship and leadership within the practice. While every therapist at Kids Matters is highly trained and well-equipped to work across a wide range of challenges and presentations, Senior OTs bring additional years of hands-on experience, advanced clinical reasoning, and the ability to manage more complex cases.

As with our Consultant OTs, this additional level of expertise is reflected in our fee structure, helping us continue investing in the development of our team and the standard of support we provide.

Can I request a Consultant, Senior, or Experienced therapist?

Our priority is always to match each child with the therapist whose skills and background are best suited to their individual needs, beginning with a comprehensive triage process from the moment a family reaches out. Many children thrive with an experienced therapist, while others – particularly those with more complex needs, a specific diagnosis, or who require specialised input – may be better supported by a Senior or Consultant OT. If you feel your child may benefit from this specific expertise, we encourage you to discuss this with us, and we’ll work closely with you to find the right fit. Our entire team works collaboratively and is strongly supported by one another, a cornerstone of the care we’re known for.
