What is Telehealth & why choose it for OT?
Telehealth uses video or phone to deliver health care where one or more of the participants are separated by distance. This means that we can provide Occupational Therapy to locations where services are limited.
You can access a highly skilled and experienced Occupational Therapist including a range of services; assessments, direct therapy with your child, parent consultations, home programs and more, all from your home.
Our Telehealth sessions provide a combination of a treatment and consultative model including resources to support you and your child. We are currenting providing Occupational Therapy to clients in Cloncurry, Parkinson, Texas, Toowoomba and Palau.
Who do we see?
We see children age 0 – 18 years with a variety of challenges including but not limited to:
- Developmental delays
- Learning difficulties
- Social competencies/ skills
- Challenges in daily living skills – toileting, dressing skills, getting ready for school, routines, feeding
- Sensory processing
- Behaviour difficulties
- Generalised Anxiety (not related to any specific cause)
*Not equipment prescription, and assistive technology
How do we provide OT to rural areas?
Initial interview and assessment: 2-3 hours (split over a few sessions). Assessments may include online questionnaires, observations, videos of functioning and third party reports/feedback.
Treatment sessions: We focus on coaching parents and kids on exercises and strategies to overcome difficulties.
Development of home program: A program that supports your child to achieve their goals within their natural environments.
Home or community visits: We aim to come and visit you in your home or community at least once per year.
Clinic visits: If you are planning a trip to Brisbane over the holidays, or at any time during the year, your child can come in for a face-to-face session with their therapist and use our amazing gym facilities.
How effective is Telehealth?
Research and our experience have shown that Telehealth OT can be, in some instances, even more effective than face-to-face therapy.
