Q&A – What is a Senior OT

What is a Senior OT and why do they have a higher rate?

At Kids Matters OT, we deeply value the experience and dedication that all of our therapists bring to their work. In particular, our Senior Occupational Therapists play a vital role not only in client care but also in the ongoing development of our team. As part of our commitment to growing and supporting our therapists, senior clinicians provide ongoing mentorship and leadership within the practice. While every therapist at Kids Matters is highly trained and well-equipped to work across a wide range of challenges and presentations, our Senior OTs bring additional years of hands-on experience, advanced clinical reasoning, and the ability to manage more complex cases. They are able to quickly refine intervention strategies and support families with deeper insight drawn from their time in the field. To maintain the high standard of care we are known for – and to continue investing in the development of our team and the quality of support we provide to every child – we have aligned our clinician fee structures accordingly. At Kids Matters, we take our role in each child’s journey seriously, and we remain committed to providing the highest level of support to every family we serve.

Can I request a Senior therapist?

At Kids Matters OT, we understand and respect a parent’s desire for their child to be seen by a senior clinician. We take great pride in thoughtfully matching each child with the most suitable therapist, beginning with a comprehensive triage process from the moment a family reaches out. If you feel your child may have more complex needs that could benefit from the expertise of a Senior OT, we encourage you to discuss this with us. As always, our entire team is highly qualified and works collaboratively to ensure the highest standard of care. Our therapists are strongly supported by one another, and this shared knowledge is a cornerstone of the service Kids Matters OT is renowned for.

Can I request to see an Intermediate therapist?

At Kids Matters OT, our intermediate therapists are fully qualified, experienced, and bring great passion and skill to their work. Many families are matched with an intermediate therapist, however, in some cases- particularly when a child presents with more complex needs or a specific diagnosis that requires advanced clinical experience- we may recommend a senior therapist to ensure the best possible outcomes. Our priority is always to match each child with the therapist whose skills and background are best suited to their individual needs. We welcome your request and will work closely with you to find the most appropriate fit for your child.
